We are here to guide young people through each stage of their musical journey.
From rhythm and singing games to picking up an instrument for the first time, to joining your first orchestra and performing on stage!

What We Offer

We have a programme of music lessons designed to develop young people into musicians starting at aged 5 and up to 18. 
We aim to match students depending on their age and previous experience.​

Age 5-7

Children looking to take their first steps in music can join our foundation classes​.

Fees: 
£5.72 per session (minimum of 10 sessions)

Age 7+

Beginners

We offer large group music lessons for beginners which can be a cost effective option to help our students decide which instrument will suit them.

Fees: 
£7.37 per session (minimum of 10 sessions)

Age 7+

All levels

We also offer individual and small group lessons, these would suit students at any level of experience. check our FAQ below for a list of all available courses.

Fees:

Individual Sessions:
£18.00 per 20 minute session

£26.29 per 30 minute session
£34.65 per 40 minute session

Small-Group Sessions:
£9.90 per  session

 

All fees are based upon a minimum of 10 sessions booked

Choirs, Bands and Orchestras

​These sessions are group music-making activities aimed at students at various levels.
These include African drumming, steel pans, wind bands, string and wind orchestras and rock bands.

 

Fees:
£6.93 per session (minimum of 10 sessions)

SEND Music Making

​Lambeth Music Service provides personalised and inclusive music lessons for learners with additional needs with our partners at Music Making SENse. We aim to be fully inclusive so if your child has additional needs a member Music Making SENse staff will consult with you to discuss the best tuition option/learning experience available. 
 

Fees:
£18.00 per 20 minute individual session
£26.29 per 30 minute individual session
£34.65 per 40 minute individual session

Music Theory

Music Theory strengthens a student's knowledge of notation and performance directions, and greatly enhances understanding of their instrument.

  • Where are you?
    We are based in the Clapham Park Centre attached to Richard Atkins Primary School. On Saturday's entrance to the Music Centre is Richard Atkins Primary School, New Park Road, London, SW2 4JP During the week our entrance is via the Clapham Park Centre, Kingswood Road, London SW2 2JW
  • How much does it cost?
    Fees vary depending on which courses you have chosen. We also offer discounts for Pupil Premium and people who have low income, full details available here:
  • What the term times?
    BHMC is normally open 10 sessions per term. We have afterschool activities throughout the week and are open on Saturdays. Below are exact dates for this term:
  • How long is the wait to join?
    Depending on the course that you choose there may be a wait to join the Centre. Certain courses and "Fast Track" courses offer instant starts. We recommend that you sign up for a course to be placed on the waiting list, you will only be asked to pay once your course is available.
  • What instruments do you teach?
    We currently offer courses in: Bass Guitar Cello Clarinet Djembe Drum kit Flute French Horn Guitar Keyboard Percussion Piano Recorder Saxophone SEND Music Making Steel Pans Singing Theory Trombone Trumpet Tuba Ukulele Viola Violin
  • Can I stay on site while my children learn?
    Yes, we have communal areas for parents and carers, a café with a selection of drinks and snacks. Children have access to the playground on Saturdays.
  • Can my child leave by themselves?
    Generally we don’t allow students to leave without their parents/carers prior consent.
  • Do we offer taster sessions?
    We currently offer tasters for foundation and ensembles, but not individual or shared lessons.
  • Can I use Child Care vouchers to pay?
    Unfortunately we can not accept childcare vouchers as we are not OFSTED regulated.
  • Do we offer sibling discounts?
    You can sign up siblings to join, however we do not offer a sibling discount
  • Do you have any adult classes?
    At present we can not offer adult classes due to the way we are funded, however this is something we are considering for the future.
  • Can I volunteer to help out?
    Certainly! Parents and carers can volunteer to help at our Friends café on Saturdays.
  • Can we visit the Centre before we sign up?
    You can visit the Centre on Saturdays to get an idea of the atmosphere and ask reception questions, with prior notice was can provide a quick tour to get a flavor of the lessons.
